Doo Defense is building a service people can trust without checking, and real work for people in Florida to do it.
Work that does not get automated away
Software is quietly removing a lot of jobs, and the ones going first were always done at a desk. Nobody is automating this one. Somebody has to walk the fence line, check under the bushes, and shut the gate behind them. A yard is a real place and a dog is a real animal, and that is not going to change.
So Doo Defense is built the other way round from most of what gets called technology right now. The scheduling, the billing, the routing and the record-keeping are handled by the software, so the person on the route is paid for the part that actually needs a person.
Here, the software exists to create the job, not to replace it.
The whole thing runs on trust
You are not home. Somebody you have never met comes through your gate, walks around the back of your house, and leaves. The only evidence anything happened is that the garden looks the way it should. Almost everyone in this business asks you to take that on faith.
We would rather prove it. A visit cannot be closed without a photograph of the finished yard, and the gate is photographed shut as well, because a gate left open is the thing people actually lie awake about. Both land in your account with the date, and they stay there.
Everything else — the routing, the billing, the record of every visit — exists to make that standard something you never have to ask about.
We are careful about who does the work
Letting somebody into your garden is not a small thing to ask, so the bar for doing this work is high and it does not come down as we grow. Nobody takes a route here who we would not send to our own family's house.
That is a promise about who turns up. It is also the harder way to build a company, and the only one that survives being copied into another town.
When it is not right, we make it right
Nobody is perfect on every yard, every week. What matters is what happens next. Tell us a spot was missed on the day of your visit and somebody comes back and re-cleans it — free, no argument, and without asking you to prove anything.
It is a button on your dashboard rather than a phone call you have to work up to, because putting it right should be easier than putting up with it.
More of Florida, and more jobs in it
The aim is routes in towns across Florida, with franchises behind them. Every route added is work that did not exist before, done by somebody who lives nearby and paid properly for it. That is the point of growing, not a side effect of it.
It is also why the standards are written into the software rather than left to whoever happens to be working. A promise that depends on one person remembering does not survive being copied fifty times. A rule the system enforces does, and that is what makes it possible to put the same service in another town without hoping for the best.
Today that means Oviedo and Winter Springs. It is the beginning of the list, not the end of it.
Doo Defense is new, and small, and currently run by the person who started it. Nothing on this site claims a company bigger than the one that exists. When there are technicians on the road and towns on the map, this page will say so, and not a day before.

Founder
Charlie started Doo Defense while at college in Central Florida, and still runs the routes himself. Every part of how a visit works — the photograph before a visit can be closed, the gate shut and photographed, the free re-clean — is there because he is the one doing it, and built the standard he would want if it were his own garden.
The plan has never been to stay one person with one van. It has been to turn that standard into something other people can be paid properly to do, in more towns than this one.
